Lieutenant Eric Garcia joined the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) in 1995, and was promoted through the civil service ranks to police lieutenant in 2003. He has diverse experience in police management and operations having worked in a variety of investigative and uniformed police assignments as a Lieutenant, Sergeant, and Officer.
In September 2004, he was assigned to the Special Victims Bureau. In that capacity, he is responsible for and provides direct supervision to the Sexual Assault Investigations Section as well as the Specialized Sexual Investigations Unit (SSIU). The SSIU investigates cold cases, Convicted Offender DNA Non-Compliance (CODNC) cases, cases referred by the Department of Children and Family (DCF), and the Internet Crimes Against Children Unit (ICAC) cases.
He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and a Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Policy & Management from the Florida International University.
His professional affiliations include the Hispanic Police Officers Association, Police Benevolent Association, Sexual Assault Response Team, Domestic Violence Sexual Assault Committee, Internet Crimes Against Crimes Task Force, Law Enforcement Against Child Harm Task Force, and the Mental Health Action Team. Moreover, he has received many commendations and awards for his service and dedication to our community and the Miami-Dade Police Department.
